Basic rules to bet in poker

poker

Every time a player is playing poker and it is his turn to play, the poker player has a limited number of choices. The player can Raise (place a bet on the pot forcing other players to call or fold) or he can Check, choosing not to add money to the pot.

In case the poker player wants to check and someone else raises, then the player has to decide whether to fold (leave the hand and lose the money he has bet up until that moment) or Call, that is equal the last bet placed. If another players calls too and there are no more cards, then it’s called a showdown. Both players have to show their cards and that who has the best hand wins.

Showdown: in case there is more than one player left after all cards are dealt all players in the poker table have called the last round of bets, players have to show their poker cards. The player with the best poker hand wins the pot. In case of tie, the pot is divided among players. The poker room also takes a commission called rake.

Winning because the other players folded: if all the players in a poker table fold, except for one, that player wins all the money in the pot (minus the house commission), with no need to show his cards to the rest of the poker players.

Strategies to bet on poker:

Check-Raise: if a poker player has a strong hand and he is ambitious, then he checks, his opponent calls and he raises the bet.

Check and Call: if a player has a poker hand that might be good, but thinks his opponent has a better hand, then to avoid raising he the poker player can Check and then Call.

Reraise: if a poker player raises a bet and other player calls it, the first player can reraise the bet forcing the opponent to call the bet again in order to remain in the poker hand. Most online poker rooms establish that this can only be done four times during a poker round.
