More than 1,128 women have registered for the Ladies No-Limit Hold’Em tournament at the 2006 World Series of Poker. The reigning champion is the Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly, whose victory generated widespread publicity last year.
“Jennifer Tilly has helped fuel the explosive growth in the popularity of women's poker. She was a gracious winner of last year’s event and has been a terrific ambassador for the game”, Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the World Series of Poker said.
This year, Tilly, together with ELLE magazine and PartyPoker.net, has assembled a team that includes famous actresses and top female players to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. The members of the team will donate a percentage of their winnings to the Association.
The final round of the Ladies tournament is scheduled to begin on July 10.
