In 1970, the World Series of Poker started at Benny Binion’s Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. In 2004, Harrah’s Entertainment, one of the most important casino operators in the world, decided to purchase the Horseshoe so as to acquire the WSOP make.
Afterwards, Harrah’s moved the event to the Rio, but the main event still took place at the Horseshoe. In 2005, when Australian poker player Joe Hachem won the title, his portrait was added to the WSOP Champions Wall, a place where all the winners are honored, from Johnny Moss in 1970.
This year, however, Jamie Gold, last year’s winner, will become the first champion not to have his image added to the famous Wall. The reason: in 2006 Harrah’s decided to hold the main event at the Rio instead of the Horseshoe. Due to this change, the owners of the Horseshoe have decided that the Wall of Champions will end with Hachem until the WSOP main event returns to the place where it all started.
