For the first time in the history of the World Poker Tour, two female competitors are among the final six. Kathy Liebert and Mimi Tran played against 607 players in the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods Casino Resort and finished within the six finalists.

Tran and Liebert are pioneers in the world of poker and they showed they can play as well as any male poker player. They both started ahead of their male counterparts in the final table. Tran was in second place and Liebert, who had previously won a World Series bracelet, started in third place.

“Having Kathy and Mimi at the final table was a definitive moment for poker and the World Poker Tour,” Steve Lipscomb, WPTE founder, president and CEO said. “While we still wait to crown the first WPT women title winner, this new mark in poker history demonstrates how women are a prominent force in the poker world, proving again and again that they are the total equals of their male opponents.”

The winner of the WPT World Poker Finals was Nenad “The Serb” Medic, who took home a prize of $1.7 million.
